Unarmed trees or shrubs. Leaves alternate, paripinnate; the rhachis sometimes winged. Inflorescence a short lateral or terminal panicle or raceme. Flowers red, showy, bisexual. Calyx lobes 4. Petals either 5 or (in brachypetala) with some or all reduced to linear filaments. Stamens 10, inserted with the petals, often alternately long and short.
