Marsh Pennywort

Water pennywort is a strange looking plant. In Dutch, it is called 'water navel' because the stem emerging from the center of the leaf resembles an umbilical cord. The flowers are tiny. Since recently, water pennywort has been re-categorized as a member of the ivy family. Water pennywort always grows in wet soils. Damp dune slacks on the Wadden Islands are covered in the plant.
