Monoecious trees and shrubs. Stipules present, caducous. Leaves alternate, simple. Flowers of both sexes with perianth segments. Male flowers in catkins or pendent tassel-like heads; perianth 4-6-lobed; stamens usually twice as many as perianth lobes.
